Forum – The Online Knowledge Sharing Platform

“Look I’m getting all set to join high school… I've been hanging out with the same group of people since third grade and now I feel I need a change. I need this at least for the sake of my attitude. I had a buddy that I used to hang out with but now she has changed her status (social) and hangs out with the real popular people…”

The above lines are extracted from a popular forum. The reason behind quoting the lines is to show you why 21st Century folk are so much Status-Oriented and how Internet supports them in achieving their expectations.

Power, Popularity and Personality – love for these three has made us to think about our status. Family Status, Social Status, Educational Status or Professional Status; everywhere we want to explore ourselves. People spend their whole life in quest of the Perfect Status. Internet has helped people up to some extent. Growing popularity of community websites like forums, blogs, dating sites have been some of the greatest platforms where most people love to share their feeling, experience and knowledge. The most important aspect is that the Exposure. Your presence is exposed to the whole, which is not possible for a common man in the Real World. That might be the reason behind the growing popularity behind Virtual World. What ever may be, let’s talk about some of such online tools where people share everything (I mean to say knowledge, experience, emotion and many more).

Let’s take the example of Forum. Wikipedia.org defines Forum as “An Internet forum is a web application which provides for discussion, often in conjunction with online communities… Popular discussion topics include technology, computer games, and politics, but forums are available for any number of different topics.” Online forums are one of the most co-operative sections where people basically help, suggest, advice, comment and share which may not be possible at any other online sections.

Though there are other online tools are available that help users sharing their ideas and experience online more freely, yet forums are the most popular ones. The reason is that response to your writing is much faster than any other such tools. Forum is basically administrator controlled and rule bound. Forums can be topic specific like technology related or literature related; or can be country specific like USA related or Pakistan related; or can be community specific.
