Heart Disease Overview

Heart disease is known as the ‘widow maker.’ There is some truth to this. Young men do have more heart attacks than younger women. Poor diet and smoking among its chief causes. Fewer men are smoking and their diet has generally improved as treatments for heart disease have advanced.

Chest or arm pain or discomfort can be a symptom of heart disease and a warning sign of a heart attack. The directors of Human Resource departments and senior managers are therefore often reluctant to allow coronary heart disease patients to return to work for fear of worsening their condition. Stress alone can cause a heart attack. It also contributes to heart disease by creating inflammation, raising your cholesterol and blood sugar, causing high blood pressure and increasing blood clotting.

Obesity in ferrets shortens ferrets lives just like it does humans. When the weather was milder, we took walks and that helped some. Obesity predisposes individuals to coronary heart disease. Some of the reasons for this are known, but others are not.
