Hanging Ten in Honolulu:- You might find it interesting to know that most vacations are experienced during the summer months of the year. When you think about it, this doesn't make a lot of sense. One would think that people would go on their vacation getaways to warm tropical vacations during the winter months, to get away from the misery of the cold weather. The only possible explanation is that it simply doesn't occur to people that some popular vacation spots are warm during the colder months. Take Honolulu Hawaii for example. During the season when the Midwestern United States is experiencing sub zero temperatures, Honolulu is at a warm and comfortable seventy degrees, and the surf is up!

To Surf or not to Surf:- Whether you like to surf or simply like to watch others surf, you have to admit that there is a certain romantic feel to the sport. Surfing has been one of the number one extreme sports for decades. Everyone wishes that they could surf, but most people cannot. There is actually a select few really good surfers. This is largely due to the mysticism that it takes years to learn. Of course, it may actually take years to get good at it, but the basics can be picked up in a few short lessons. This winter, when the rest of the crowd is huddled around the fire at home, why don't you pack your bags, grab your family and head down to one of the many world famous surf spots in and near Honolulu Hawaii.

The Banzai Pipeline:- One of the more popular spots is the Banzai Pipeline. This spot is famous for the very aggressive wave activity during the winter months, but is definitely a spot for the new surfer or surfer to be to watch and not to try. The reason for this is that the reefs here are very shallow; making what would otherwise be a harmless tumble from your board potentially very dangerous. Nevertheless, there are some of the worlds foremost competitions held here.

Sunset Beach on the North Shore:- A good starter spot for surfers to be is the ever-popular Sunset Beach on the North Shore. This is the site of the United States most renowned surfing competition, the O'neill World Cup of Surfing. Surfers from around the world attend this renowned contest, as the winner is truly viewed as the world's best surfer. The waves are good, but not threatening. The surface of the beach beneath the water is relatively free of reef and rocks, so it is the ideal place to learn this world famous sport.

Waimea Beach:- There are multiple other spots in the area that are excellent places to surf, learn to surf, and merely watch the professional surfers. There is Waimea Beach with waves in excess of 20 feet tall. This is a relatively safe area, but be warned as a twenty foot wave can pound you pretty hard. This is also the place of Quicksilver surfing competition yearly.

If you have ever dreamed hanging ten with the professionals, spending nights around a beach front campfire, and talking the talk with the dog surfers, why not put that summer vacation off until winter and enjoy your day in the sun on your board. The city of Honolulu in the Hawaiian Islands always welcomes you with open arms.
