How To Guard Against PC Malware

By: Isaiah Henry

Whenever our computer behaves strangely after it had been connected to the Internet, we usually ask ourselves the question what spyware is doing to it this time. Malware of all kinds (adware, spyware, Trojans, etc.) have teamed up to make our life on the Web a misery. However, the actual question is if we know what spyware is and where it originates from.

All these questions on what is spyware will only be normal for anyone. We hear about them and read on them when we run into some articles over the web or in magazines and editorials. Knowing what is spyware is only the tip of the iceberg. Encountering and experiencing spyware is another.

It takes seconds on the Net for your computer to become infected by potential threats such as malware. You cant fight potential threats without the help of a spyware program. Such a program is the weapon against malware in the form of spyware, adware, phishing attacks, keyboard loggers, etc., which you can catch easily from a floppy, CD and above all from the Net. There is a lot of information on the Web about what exactly computer spyware is and what it can cause.

Thinking that your PC is protected against worms, Trojans, viruses, etc. because your spyware program is up to date, is unreasonable. You might have some protection but it is not a complete one. While there are hundreds of anti-virus and spyware programs on the market, none of them provides complete protection against all kinds of malware but is targeted at specific types of malware only. Having a firewall is also not a solution because malware manages to find gaps in it and still successfully installs on your computer behind your back.

The truth is that there is no single spyware program, which can protect you completely. Malware will always manage to sneak into PCs. And these threats might go undetected if your program cant catch them. There are good programs, such as Adware or Spyware Doctor but are they the only ones?

It is highly recommendable to check out sites first. Malware is really wide-spread and many sites are infected. You should listen to the warnings of your antispyware program or Windows security center and stay away from infected sites. There is no list of infected sites because there are millions of them and it is useless to list them one by one.

The most important steps you can take are to be careful and keep your security software up to date. Dont assume that your malware definitions are up to date because if they arent the risks are substantial. Malware attempts to damage any PC it can get into. You will not be happy if this PC is yours. At all times, take measures to defend your computer. There are many programs, which you can find online or in the computer shop nearby. Protection against computer spyware is easy to find and all you have to do is to make just a small effort to get it.
