Inexpensive Ways To Make Your Restaurant Better

By: Patricia Farnham

There are some common mistakes restaurant owner's make that you will want to avoid. These may be issues that you just haven't given much thought to. However, they can greatly influence the bottom line for your business. The happier your customers are, the more they are going to come back. They will also want to let others know about their great experiences at your restaurant.

The atmosphere in your restaurant is likely something that you spent a great deal of time focusing on. Have you taken the time to sit in the seats you offer your guests for an hour or so to see how they feel? You need to make sure they are very comfortable and that they are a good height for the tables in the establishment. Otherwise it is hard for the customers to be comfortable while they try to eat their meal.

Don't make the mistake of telling customers where they have to sit in your establishment. Some people like to sit by the window or the door so they an see who else is coming in. Others want a more discreet location in your restaurant. If you offer both tables and booths they may have a preference as to which one they want as well. You can still incorporate the role of a hostess but make sure they ask the guests if they have a seating preference.

Cleanliness is very important for your restaurant. Make sure you take the time to explain to staff how you want this to be done. They need to regularly get clean rags too because a brownish color rag to wipe off tables is basically just spreading more germs than anything else. Make sure they feel the tables too in case they miss something that isn't easily visible to them.

One of the biggest mistakes in a restaurant is the quality of the staff. You can teach them how to prioritize their time and serve meals, but you really can't teach people basic communication skills. You need to look for individuals that are outgoing and willing to interact with people. Some people will never return to a given restaurant based on the way they were treated by an employee.

Staff that goes out of the way to anticipate needs are even more appreciated. For example, they can ask if the person wants a high chair or a booster chair for the children they bring in. They can bring extra napkins and they can watch to see if drinks need to be refilled. The less things the customer has to ask for in this department, the better the experience will be.

You may not think your bathrooms are important to the success of your restaurant, but they are. The number of people that will use them in a given day may surprise you. Take the time to offer a clean bathroom with some nice decorations. Make sure someone is paying attention to the amount toilet paper, paper towels, and soap in there during their shift.

There are a few of the common restaurant mistakes that you will want to avoid. They will give guests a bad impression of your business and that can result in them not coming back. You want to build up a solid reputation of offering excellent food, qualified employees, and a very clean restaurant. These things are going to influence the decision of consumers to come in and eat or not.
